What We Do

Caring for the whole family is at the heart of Ohana. Our programs are designed to meet youth and their families where they are by offering a full spectrum of services.

Conditions We Treat

Mental, behavioral, and emotional concerns can affect how your child feels at home or learns at school. Turn to a multidisciplinary team of professionals who specialize in caring for patients from early childhood to young adulthood. We care for patients experiencing:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks, including anxiety that causes school avoidance
  • Attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Conduct disorders causing aggressive, destructive, or violent behavior
  • Depression
  • Moodiness or irritability that interferes with daily life
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Relationship conflicts with parents, siblings, friends, or others
  • Stress due to academic pressure or school
  • Substance use disorders
  • Suicidal thoughts or self-harming behaviors
  • Trouble managing stress or coping with other strong feelings

Diagnosis and Treatment

Depend on Ohana’s experienced team to diagnose mental health conditions using accurate evaluation methods. Your child’s treatment plan can involve your entire family and may include:

  • Individual, group, and family counseling and education. Depending on your child’s needs, their therapy may focus on building skills or mastering habits of thought or behavior connected to their mood, anxiety symptoms, or emerging identity
  • Evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)
  • Healthy lifestyle changes, such as improving sleep and nutrition, getting enough exercise, enjoying hobbies and pursuing interests, and making fulfilling social connections
  • Medication and symptom management
  • Socialization, strengths-finding, and skill-building with parents or peers

The type of care and number of visits your child needs depends on many factors. Rest assured, we can offer prompt interventions for a short-term crisis as well as ongoing, long-term support over months or years.

Programs and Treatment Settings

Your child’s care will take place in the setting that’s best for their needs. We offer several options. This includes care and prevention education at the new Ohana campus, a peaceful, healing environment.

Your child may benefit from:

  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP) — Treats young people with severe anxiety or mood disorders after school three days a week. Students attend group sessions with peers of similar age with similar conditions
  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP) — Gives care during the school day for young people with severe symptoms that affect their ability to learn in a typical school setting. Individual and group sessions include skill-building and time for education with peers
  • Residential treatment program — Allows patients to live onsite for a few weeks to build new skills and improve their health. The setting is an engaging, camp-like environment that’s different from a locked, inpatient psychiatric unit. Family involvement is always part of this program. For specific questions related to our residential program, please email OhanaAdmissions@chomp.org
  • Crisis stabilization unit (CSU) — Provides care to children or teenagers during a short stay (usually about 24 hours) while their families receive supportive services and referrals for outpatient care. The CSU is connected to the Emergency department at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula
  • Prevention programs — Educate youth and families at Ohana and Monterey County schools, pediatric practices, and community organizations.
  • Ohana classes and events — Find upcoming classes, support groups, trainings, and workshops
  • Services to complement your child’s treatment plan — These may include coaching for healthy habits around sleep, exercise, mindfulness, nutrition, and more, alongside athletic activities, art/music therapy, peer counseling, education and career guidance
