Prescribe Safe receives first-ever Safe and Healthy Schools and Communities Leadership Award
On February 9, Montage Health's Prescribe Safe program received the first-ever Safe and Healthy Schools and Communities Leadership Award. The award, given by the Monterey County Office of Education and Monterey County Safe and Healthy Schools and Communities Coalition, celebrates the significant impact that Prescribe Safe is making in addressing fentanyl, overdoses, and addiction in the community.
“Your leadership, advocacy, and tireless efforts put into this initiative have not only contributed to creating awareness but have also played a pivotal role in fostering positive change and providing support to those affected,” says Dr. Deneen Guss, Monterey County Superintendent of Schools, in a letter to Montage Health and Prescribe Safe leaders and co-founders Drs. Casey Grover and Reb Close.
Prescribe Safe was founded in 2014 with the goal of saving and improving lives by helping to prevent and address addiction. Since then, the program has partnered with more than 65 local businesses and agencies to address the opioid epidemic.
“Working with our community to save lives is a responsibility and honor that we are proud to hold,” Close says. “Prescribe Safe has grown and developed thanks to collaborative relationships between Montage Health, Monterey County organizations, and individuals. Prescribe Safe is more than just the services we provide; it is the hope that one day, deadly overdoses will be a crisis of the past.”
“Our school leaders are very thankful for your collaborative approach in addressing this complex issue and helping to empower students to make informed and positive choices,” Guss says. “Prescribe Safe truly serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for our schools, our youth, and our entire community.”
