This year, Montage Health celebrates 90 years of caring for the community.
Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula started in 1934 as a 30-bed hospital in Carmel called Peninsula Community Hospital. The hospital evolved in conjunction with the community’s needs into Montage Health, always remaining locally owned and operated, nonprofit, and steadfast stewards of community health.
Community Hospital is the core of our organization, and it has been here for 90 years. We added the brand of Montage to really describe that collection of services and I’m proud of the work that’s done at all of those organizations.
—Dr. Steven Packer, Montage Health President and CEO
“The past really has influenced who we are,” says Dr. Steven Packer, Montage Health President and CEO, “in the sense that even in our roots, at our beginning, we were really focused on providing extraordinary patient care and serving the members of our community. And that human touch, that personal touch, persists today despite the fact that we’ve grown considerably in size.”
“Community Hospital is the core of our organization, and it has been here for 90 years,” Packer says. “We added the brand of Montage to really describe that collection of services and I’m proud of the work that’s done at all of those organizations.”
As for the future, Packer says medical innovation is leading the way. “I see a lot of growth in AI and technology. I see continued growth in the spectrum of services that we’re going to be providing to our community.”
