Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula celebrates local cancer survivors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The 2023 Cancer Survivors’ Day is an in-person event recognizing and appreciating those whose lives have been affected by cancer.
MONTEREY, CA. — Cancer survivors and their families will come together to connect and celebrate with a day of food, fun, and education at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s 25th Cancer Survivors’ Day on Saturday, August 5 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Monterey Peninsula College. More than 500 attendees are expected, including cancer survivors, their family members, and the medical community and vendors who support and treat cancer patients. Participants can register online for the event and learn more at chomp.org/celebrate.
Educational presentations, a barbeque hosted by local doctors, therapy dogs, a hands-on art project, music, giveaways, and more are included in this free event put on by the hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, celebrating positive health outcomes for the community.
“Being a cancer survivor is something to celebrate. Sharing kinship with other survivors in the community is healing, inspiring, and puts the resilience and good health of our community proudly on display,” said Phillip Williams, Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and Diabetes Services at Community Hospital.
A Blue Zones Project educational presentation will start the day at 11 a.m. at the Monterey Peninsula College Lecture Forum, sharing tips on how to live a long, fulfilling life. Lunch will be provided from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the north end of campus near the Library and Technology Center.
The celebration is made possible with grant support from Montage Health Foundation, Safeway Foundation, and through the Community Benefit program at Community Hospital that provided $182.9 million in total community support in 2022.
