MONTEREY, Calif. — Dr. David Straface was honored with the Physician Recognition Award for 2021 by his medical staff peers at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

Straface, a primary care doctor, has practiced at Community Hospital since 1995, caring for thousands of patients. Straface is the medical director and a board member for Montage Medical Group, and sits on the Interdisciplinary Quality, Joint Informatics Governance, and Clinical Informatics committees. He also serves as an officer on the board of directors of the Monterey Bay Independent Physicians Association. Straface was honored October 28 at the annual meeting of the hospital’s medical staff and presented the award by Dr. Guru Khalsa, the current chief of staff.

Straface is not only known for his expertise in treating his patients, but also his zest for the outdoors and life. Prior to medical school, he was an avid high school athlete, lived and traveled in Europe after graduating, and worked as a carpenter and a teacher before attending medical school. “Dr. Straface is a foundation for primary care in our area,” said Khalsa. “He has served as a mentor to young physicians in our community and treats everyone with warmth, compassion, and respect.”

Straface graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1990 and completed his residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in 1993. He was an internist and assistant professor of medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center from 1993-95. Straface is board certified in internal medicine. Straface and his wife, Anne, have three children, three grandchildren, – and another on the way.
