Who can benefit?

Neurological rehab can help you reach your highest level of independence if you:

• Experienced a stroke or brain or spinal cord injury
• Have a neurologic disorder, such as multiple sclerosis (MS) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also called ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease) or Parkinson’s Disease
• Experience regular or severe dizziness with normal activity
• Have had a recent concussion

What to expect

Partner with different therapists who specialize in the type of care you need. We’ll customize your program so it’s specific to your needs. Depending on your symptoms, diagnosis, and other factors, you may receive:

• Occupational therapy – Helps you do everyday activities more easily, especially when using your hands
• Physical therapy – Improves your balance, strength, and movement skills
• Speech and swallowing therapy – Makes it easier to communicate or eat

You may take part in neurological rehab during:

• Daytime appointments at an outpatient rehabilitation location in Monterey or Salinas
• Inpatient (overnight) stay at Community Hospital on the William R. Lewis, MD, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU)

Collaborative, family-centered approach

You and your family caregivers will receive education about your condition and ongoing emotional support.
