Laboratory test results

When you’re waiting for answers about your health, we know you want the information as quickly as possible. Expect accurate, timely results when you choose a Montage Health laboratory for testing.

When will my results be ready?

The amount of time it takes for your results to be ready depends on the type of test and other factors.

For many tests we provide, results are ready the same day as your test or the next day. For microbiology tests, your sample needs time (up to five days) to grow in a culture, but we speed up the process by doing these types of tests onsite.

How can I receive my results?

The doctor who ordered your test should call you to share and discuss your test results.

Our staff will submit your results electronically, so they’re quickly and easily available to you and your doctor. Sometimes, if you have a MyChart account, your results may be available in your account before your doctor has a chance to contact you. You’ll receive an email or text message letting you know your results are ready. Contact your doctor to get help to understand your results.

View your results in MyChart

MyChart is a secure, online patient portal where you can view your medical records, including lab test results, as soon as they’re available.

Other ways to get your results

If needed, we can also print a copy of your test results. To get a printed version, contact the Health Information Management (HIM) office inside Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Call (831) 625-4577 to reach HIM staff, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You’ll need to fill out a release form if the test results are for someone besides yourself, such as your parent or child.

You can also request a printed copy of your test results at any Montage Health outpatient lab. You’ll need to show us your ID or let us call your doctor.

Can you give my results over the phone?

You’ll get a call from your doctor’s office, not the lab, to share your results. Contact the doctor who ordered your test if you have questions or don’t hear from them. The doctor who ordered your test is the best professional to help you understand your results because they know about your health and medical needs.

To protect your privacy, laboratory staff are not able to share your test results or interpret what they may mean during a phone call.

What happens after I get my test results?

Your doctor may use our analysis of your lab test, along with the results of other tests you may have, to recommend a personalized care plan.

Find a lab near you

Once you have a doctor’s order, you can walk in to any Community Hospital laboratory during regular business hours for most tests. Search for a laboratory to view hours of operation and contact information, and call ahead of time to make sure the location you’re going to offers the specific test you need.
